in the fullness of time, I will come to understand
that I am more than an organ of this body
I am more than food for strange and beautiful bottomfeeders
this is, perhaps, a deliberate lie
the kind of lie that we are supposed to tell ourselves
---
but, there are no selves, in the belly of a whale
there are no selves, within an act of consumption
so I am not obligated to lie
and I will not be obligated to do so again
there are so many things, that I am no longer obligated to do
